XERO Finance Manager

Reporting to: Chief Executive

Hours: 21 – 28 hours per month

Contract: Freelance contract (we would consider a PAYE contract if preferred)

Salary: £15 per hour

Location: Culture24’s Brighton office

Are you a finance wizard working in Xero with a love of the arts? Do you have a passion for numbers and order? Culture24 is looking for a part-time Finance Manager to join our team based in the heart of Brighton’s North Laine.

You’ll need to have proven experience of financial management and bookkeeping using Xero accountancy software. Your work will include managing all of our financial transactions, preparing the accounts for audit and working closely with our Chief Executive, Jane Finnis, on budgeting and financial reporting.

Overall purpose

* Management of all company financial systems using Xero accountancy software
* Financial monitoring, budgeting and bookkeeping
* Supporting the Chief Executive in financial planning
* To be the first point of contact on all finance matters

Key responsibilities

ŸŸŸ* Maintaining accurate records of all financial activity and project budgets
* Preparation of accounts for audit and direct liaison with the appointed auditors
* Processing of all invoices, payments and banking including HMRC payments
* Coordination of all financial reporting to funding agencies in line with relevant funding agreements
* Preparation of management accounts

Specific tasks

* Cost centre accounting within Xero to enable project monitoring and reporting
* Coordination and payment of staff salaries, staff expenses and childcare payments
* Preparation of quarterly financial management reports for the board of trustees
* Work with the CEO on financial planning, resource management and up to date reporting of all project budgets
* Responsibility for filing annual returns with Companies House and the Charity Commission
* Working with all staff to monitor budgetary control for all projects
* Liaison with company accountants for all PAYE, preparation of accounts, legal submission  and audit preparations
* Posting and reconciling bank statements
* VAT returns
* And any other “ad-hoc” duties as assigned by line manager

Person specification



* Minimum of three year track record of financial management, budgeting and the preparation of accounts in readiness for audit
* Demonstrable experience in the preparation of financial information, management accounts and monitoring of income and expenditure across different budgets
* Proven understanding and experience of company accounting, book-keeping procedures
* Excellent working knowledge of Xero accounting software


* Highly numerate with confidence in dealing with financial information
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Excellent interpersonal skills and confident phone manner
* Systematic approach to coordination of tasks and time management
* Ability to prioritise and manage tasks to set deadlines
* Excellent knowledge of office software (Word, Excel, Outlook) and accountancy software


* Goal oriented and self-motivated with high energy levels
* Friendly and patient in approach to partners and colleagues


* Knowledge of charitable accounting and reporting
* Understanding of the cultural or not-for profit sectors
* Passionate about arts and culture
